The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) held an exciting competition VeloDream asking pupils up to the age of 16 to design their dream VeloPark. Teachers can still download a Resource Pack. London 2012 - On Your Marks! is a web based resource for young people, teachers and parents full of information about the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. To help with teaching about the Built Environment developments the resource contains useful factsheets ‘What is Planned for 2012’, ‘Regeneration in London in 2012’ and ‘The Olympic Park and Sustainability’ and has an extensive picture library which can either be printed or copied into a presentation.
Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) is the Government's advisor on Architecture, Urban Design and Public Space. Here you will find details about a number of Built Environment education programmes and resources. How Places Work is a national programme of visits to buildings and public spaces. Download a copy of the teachers guide and find out how to get involved. Which Places Work is a website aimed at young people aged 11 - 16 which allows them to explore the concept of 'good design'. Sign up to CABE's network of teachers, educators and other professionals interested in built environment education to get free copies of 3600 magazine. Applications are currently invited for the CABE Education Grants. The grants are for primary and secondary schools in England to support imaginative teaching about architecture. The deadline for applications is 16 November 2007.
Engaging Places is an exciting new project from the Department for Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) and the Department for Education and Schools (DfES) to help schools unlock the educational potential of local buildings, places and spaces in the built environment. Engaging Places builds on Laying the Foundations: Using the built environment to teach and constitutes a key component of DCMS's pledge of support to DfES's Learning Outside the Classroom Manifesto.
The Academy for Sustainable Communities (ASC) is the national centre for delivering the skills and knowledge needed to make better places. Making Places is a practical resource for Key Stage 3 which introduces sustainable communities and contains practical ideas for activities such as role play, topics for debate, projects and competitions.
